A couple weeks ago, we got a call from a customer looking for a set of upgraded brake pads for his GT-R via our online store. Per our usual policy, we contact every single customer that places an online order, to insure they are getting the right products for their GT-R. After a brief phone call to introduce ourselves the pads were sent out. A week later, Sharif gave this same customer a call to see how the pads were working out. As they began talking some more, one thing led to another, ending with a plan to bring the car down to Forged for a 4 Day chassis overhaul, with the goal of completing the project in time for our Annual VIR track day.

The car came to us already making great power, with a Switzer P800 kit, built engine, and built transmission. With all the power adding and transmission pieces taken care of, the Forged team went to work on improving the handling, braking, and safety characteristics of the car. This GT-R will see extensive track use and is rarely driven on the street, but the work performed would show nicely at car meet or coffee shop. Given our experience with setting up GT-R’s for fast, safe track operation we were confident we could meet the customer’s strict timeline and goals.

We performed the following:

JRZ 4 Way Adjustable 1431 Coilovers with Remote Reservoirs Installed in Cabin
FP Spec custom spring rates and gas pressure
Advan GT 20×10 +35, 20×12 +20
Michelin Pilot super sports (295/35/20, 335/30/20)
Dodson Adjustable Front A-Arms
FP Swaybars
FP Spec In-House Race Alignemnt
Racetech Racing Seats for Driver and Passenger
Forged Performance Bolt in Roll Cage
Schroth Harnesses
Traqmate TraqDash HD Pro Bundle Custom Install (lap timing and data acquisition)
Alcon Super Kit with Nickel Heat Treated Plated Calipers
Carbotech XP 12 Pads
Motul, Endless, and Willall Fluids
Permanent Bypass of Airbag and Seat Sensor Dash Lights (All retained airbags remain fully functional)

The team put in some overtime to get everything installed just in time for VIR. On Saturday, the rest of the Forged team arrived on track, while Sharif hopped in the car and spent some time fine tuning the setup before handing it back over to the customer who had a big smile on his face. After 3 days of tracking at VIR, the car spent a total of 4 additional track days at Road Atlanta. Seven Days of tracking, a perfect setup, and one very happy GT-R track day junky.

I wanted to give everyone a first look at the new extreme duty racing front rotors from Alcon. As many of you know, Forged and Alcon have been working closely over the past couple of months to launch the most durable and highest performing rotor upgrades to the GT-R community. During the busy season, we track our GT-R’s almost on a weekly basis so using the most durable and effective braking components is a big priority to us. A formal announcement is forthcoming, but wanted to show you all the difference between the Alcon street rotor and the Alcon race rotor. Those that track their car regularly are going to enjoy these new thicker castings, with smaller air gap. I did 2 hours of track testing this weekend with them, and came away very impressed. These race grade thicker and heavier castings will result in greater longevity and rotor durability, as well as a higher capacity to absorb heat. And best of all, pricing remains the same for the new race casting. We have these products in stock and they are also available through any Alcon dealer, including AMS, Kaizen Tuning, SP Engineering, Jotech, Speed for Sale, and Vivid Racing.

2012-2014 GT-R

For the 5th year in a row we were privileged to hold our Forged Performance Annual Track Day at Virginia International Raceway with the support of GTR-Life and the entire GT-R community. This was the best one yet and we hope to continue that trend every year. One new tradition we started was attending a local tractor pull at the Danville fairgrounds; a 15 minute drive from VIR. This was a very unique experience for all that went, we HIGHLY recommend it.

As in year’s past, our event rides on the coatails of NASA Mid Atlantic regions July HPDE and Race weekend. Naturally most of our customers saw this as fantastic opportunity to get some extra track time in before our main event on Monday.

Despite all of the surprises mother nature threw at us with hot temps, humiduty, followed by severe thunderstorms and lightening, everyone was in attendance for the welcome dinner above the Pagoda Grill. Aside from the initial excitement of a direct lightening strike and small electrical fire at the North Tower, and a veritable river running through the paddock and tech shed, the weather cleared in time to enjoy some time on the deck. True to legend, many stories were shared and everyone seemed to have a good time over a gourmet BBQ dinner.

We awoke early the next morning to get started on what would be a full day of laps at VIR’s Full Course. Sharif and Scott gave a brief overview of VIR’s famed North Course, and the various challenges, hazards and technicalities that awaited the drivers.

Drivers then prepped the cars and took to the track in one of three run groups. All makes and models, as well as driver skill sets were represented.

Lunch was then served in the relief of the shade, accompanied by conversations filled with excitement over the morning sessions.

After lunch, a parade lap and photo shoot were on the schedule. We had a rare opportunity to get out of the cars and pose for our group shot on the track surface. Gators look so different when you are standing on them and not screaming over them at 90+ mph!

The afternoon sessions gave the attendees the opportunity to really push their driving to the limit. The RED group could have been mistaken for a Grand Am Race, as Nissan, Audi, Porsche, and a Lamborghini diced it up in close configurations. Once everyone had their fill of nearly unlimited laps, we said our goodbyes and closed the book on the 5th Annual Track Day. We are proud to say that we had no on track incidences at all, and everyone drove home safely. Everyone kept their cars safely on track…well…at least one out of four wheels were always on track…haha! We would like to thank all of our friends new and old for the fantastic weekend!

After a unusually rainy 4th of July weekend, The Forged crew met up early to head over to Caffeine and Octane. We were unsure of what the turnout would be with the looming clouds overhead, but we ended up with some of the best weather we have had at C&O this year. One of the most of out the ordinary vehicles yet to appear was a Russian amphibious vehicle. Its owner brought it on a trailer and did several demo start ups with the radial engine. This may have been the best Caffeine and Octane to date but we are still looking forward to next month!

Having traveled quite a bit in the last few months, we were happy for the short drive to one of our favorite local tracks for the Chin Motorsports June event at Road Atlanta. It’s always a pleasure to work with the fine folks who run the Chin events as they always seem to attract a great group of drivers as well as spectators. We saw many new faces mixed in the locals who were out for the event. Forged had a near record number of our customers’ GT-R’s out for the weekend. One even hailing from Chicago to experience the Famous Road Atlanta. Track conditions were fantastic for the Forged suspension settings we had dialed in for him. Although we had some light showers on Sunday, it did little to curb the amount of drivers on track. We would like to thank Chin Motorsports for putting together such a well organized event and Road Atlanta for giving us such an amazing venue right here in our own backyard. We hope to see everyone at VIR in July!
